About the Workshop Series

Can a cartoon change the world? Join the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers and editorial cartoonist Sofia Warren in exploring cartoons as a way of documenting and commenting on the world around us. Together, we’ll look at some examples and explore the process ourselves, from picking a topic, to articulating a perspective, to figuring out how to communicate using humor and visual language. Expect to leave these workshops with a few original cartoons, and the tools to keep making your own editorial cartoons in the future.

Underwritten by The Herb Block Foundation, The Herblock Award for Editorial Cartoon provides $2,000 scholarships for three students whose visual art offers commentary or criticism on current events, social events, or political topics.
