Got questions? We have answers!

Across the United States and Canada, thousands of teens are entering their art and writing to the Awards. To help you get your entries in before the deadline, here are the answers to our most frequently asked questions!

Deadlines

Deadlines vary by region, with many deadlines falling on December 1. You may have a different region for art entries than for your writing entries, which means you may have two deadlines. You can find your regional program and its deadline by visiting artandwriting.org/regions. All deadlines are effective at 11:59 pm Eastern Time. Please note you will not be able to upload or edit your work after the deadline, but you will be able to complete your payment or upload your entry forms.

Entry Status Confirmation

Because of the volume of entries we receive, we can’t confirm the status of individual entries. You can track the entry status of your works when you log in at artandwriting.org

It may take some time for your regional program to process the entries. If you see status messages in either green or yellow, you’re good to go! If there’s a red status message, it will provide instructions on how to complete your entry.

Payment Questions

Payments go directly to your regional program.  Your region page will have information from your local program about making payments and how to contact them. It may take some time to process payments, and your region may begin processing payments after the entry deadline.

Copyright & Plagiarism

Please review our Copyright & Plagiarism Guidelines before you enter. Do not enter fan art, fan fiction, or drawings or paintings that copy photographs that were taken by another artist. You may use limited portions of another’s work if you cite your source and if the final product is still an original idea.

Works Cited

When you cite your source, put as much information as possible, including the name of the original creator, the title of the work, and a link to the source.

In your works cited and/or bibliography, you may format your sources in any style.

Categories

You can review all of the category descriptions and guidelines, including word count limits and image and formatting requirements, at artandwriting.org/awards/how-to-enter/categories.

Using Real Names

It’s okay to use the names of public or historical figures, and it’s okay to use real names in Journalism entries. We ask that you change the names of your family and friends in other categories to protect their privacy. When you enter the Awards, you give us permission to publish your work on our website and in print.
