What is the future of creativity and innovation? The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards and our sponsors at 3D Systems think you – our students and teachers – already know! Innovation and originality have been at the heart of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards for the past 90 years, and as we have grown, the definition of creativity has evolved along with us. 3D Systems, an innovator in creative technology is sponsoring the Awards newest challenge this year, the Future New!

The Future New Creative Challenge asks students to produce boundary-breaking creations that are conceptually or socially-driven and incorporate new materials and technologies as tools for innovation. Works within this challenge must not fit into other categories of the Scholastic Awards; however, work which pushes the boundaries of an existing category will be considered.

You may use any medium or incorporate several to build your own version of Future New. To get your creative juices flowing, click here for some great examples—but certainly not all—of the kinds of work we hope you’ll send us. These works are categorized, but remember the Future New is all about breaking boundaries!

When you submit work for this creative challenge, you will be asked to indicate Future New when you register. Winning work will earn National Gold and Silver Medals.
