How can I purchase Scholastic Awards branded merchandise?
Show your Scholastic Awards pride by stopping by the Gold Key Boutique and picking up some Scholastic Awards swag! Swag is also available for purchase onsite and online. The Gold Key Boutique is cashless, and all purchases help support the Scholastic Awards and the work we do to recognize and celebrate creative teens.
Can I have extra tickets? Is there a waiting list for extra tickets?
If a guest requires more tickets, they have the option to join the standby line where undistributed tickets will be made available. The standby line will be open on June 8 from 2:00-3:00 pm at the Marriot Marquis. Any remaining tickets will be available at 5:00 pm at Carnegie Hall.
I need to pick up someone else’s tickets. What should I do?
Provide the name(s) of the individual(s) you are picking tickets up for at registration and we will be happy to provide you with those.
What happens if I miss onsite registration?
Please make plans to arrive at the New York Marriot Marquis before 2:00 pm on Thursday. There is no late check-in.
Students with reserved tickets who missed onsite registration should arrive at the stage entrance of Carnegie Hall for the Dress Rehearsal at 3:30 pm with their medal. Only students will be allowed in at the stage entrance.
Reserved tickets for educators and guests of students that were not picked up at onsite registration will be released at 2:00 pm unless you notify us of your delay. Please contact us at info@artandwriting.org if you are unable to make it on time. We will leave your tickets at will call at the main entrance of Carnegie Hall at 5:00 pm.
Do I need to provide proof of vaccination at Scholastic Inc.?
Proof of vaccination is required to attend the exhibition and events at Scholastic Inc. (130 Mercer Street), so please come prepared with a paper or digital copy of your Covid-19 vaccination record.
What happens if I arrive at onsite registration or Carnegie Hall without a ticket reservation?
Because space is limited at Carnegie Hall, all tickets must be reserved in advance. Students and Educators should not make travel plans to attend the National Ceremony without first reserving a ticket and then confirming that ticket reservation. The only tickets available at onsite registration are for students, educators, and partners who reserved tickets in advance. Any reserved tickets that are not claimed at onsite registration will be released at 2:00 pm unless you have contacted us. We will leave your tickets at will call at the main entrance of Carnegie Hall at 5:00 pm.
There will be a standby line beginning no earlier than 2:00 pm at the Marriot Marquis for persons without a ticket reservation. Any remaining tickets will be available at 5:00 pm at Carnegie Hall.
Do parents and guardians have to attend the in-person workshops with their students?
Parents and Guardians are not invited to the in-person workshops during Awards Week. We encourage students to attend these workshops independently to interact with like-minded peers and instructors.
What should I wear to the interactive workshops at the Marriot Marquis?
We recommend wearing what you would normally wear to school or to the movies.
My medal never arrived in the mail. What should I do?
If you did not receive your National Medal in the mail prior to the National Ceremony, please notify a staff member at Registration so they can provide you with one.
National Ceremony
What should I wear to the National Ceremony?
Students should wear attire suitable for a nice function like a high school or college graduation.
I forgot to bring my medal or I did not pick up my medal at onsite registration. What should I do?
Go to the stage door of the theatre on 56th Street. A staff member will be there to let you in.
I’m late for the dress rehearsal. What should I do?
Go to the stage door of Carnegie Hall on 56th Street. House handlers will place students where they need to be at the designated time.
Will there be food provided at the dress rehearsal?
Food will not be provided at the dress rehearsal. We recommend that you bring a light snack with you if you anticipate being hungry.
Will I be able to leave Carnegie Hall after the dress rehearsal ends?
No. Students will not have a chance to leave Carnegie Hall between the rehearsal and the ceremony. We recommend that you eat and charge your cell phone before arriving for the rehearsal. Students should leave any belongings, including ceremony tickets, with their guests.
I’m a parent or guardian and my student went into the dress rehearsal with my ticket! What should I do?
If a student accidentally brings a ticket into the dress rehearsal, the ticket will be brought to the Box Office.
I’m a parent, educator, or other guest and I didn’t pick up my ticket at onsite registration. What should I do?

Can parents wait with their students who are entering the dress rehearsal at the stage entrance?
No, only students may enter the stage entrance for the dress rehearsal. All families and guests should wait elsewhere until 5 pm. Doors will open for guests and educators at 5:00 pm at the main entrance on 57th Street. Enjoy a walk in Central Park while you wait!
What if I require special assistance at Carnegie Hall?
Please communicate your needs to Scholastic Awards staff. Guests requiring special assistance should report to the main entrance at 5:00 pm and Carnegie Hall ushers will assist.
How do I know where to sit?
Most guest tickets are general admission. Educators and some guests will have assigned seats. If you have an assigned seat, Carnegie Hall ushers will help to seat you.
Will students sit with their parents during the ceremony?
No. All students will be seated together during the ceremony. Everyone will exit through the front of the house, and the street outside Carnegie can get quite crowded. Students and parents should decide upon a place to meet (i.e., in front of a restaurant or at a specific cross street) after the ceremony lets out.

When can I see the exhibit?
We are excited to showcase nationally awarded work with an in-person exhibition! A selection of works will be exhibited at Scholastic Inc.’s headquarters and Affirmation Arts during Awards Week.

There’s something wrong with my artwork (incorrect label, upside-down, etc.)!
We’re sorry for the mistake! We can’t make changes to the exhibition during exhibition hours. Please email info@artandwriting.org with the subject line: National Exhibition. We will work to resolve the issue as quickly as we can.
I don’t see my artwork in the exhibit. What should I do?
Due to space limitations, only a selection of national medal-winning works is on view at the in-person exhibition.
Reproduction and Display Protocol
- Works that were requested to be sent as original pieces in most cases do not have reproductions in the show. Reproductions were generated only for original works which were granted special exceptions from shipping.
- The size of reproductions was determined by our spatial availability and interest in presenting all work as equitably as possible.
- Reproduction size and quality were also determined by the quality and size of the image as uploaded to the Awards portal.
- Original works that shipped in error (including shipped with frames, sent from outside the US, or sent outside our size guideline) are not exhibited. Your work will be returned to you.
How to find your student’s work?
130 Mercer
- The exhibition is organized by genre. All works of the same category are grouped together.
- Works are arranged on the wall in alphabetical order moving from right to left, then top to bottom in each row.
- Film and animation works, as well as all 3D works, are displayed on monitors in the space.
Affirmation Arts
- Artworks are displayed in alphabetical order moving from right to left, then top to bottom in each row.
- Gold Medal Portfolios, Silver Medal with Distinction Portfolios, and other scholarship-awarded works are displayed on the free-standing walls in the space.
