Apply to the 2025 Writers Residency for Educators with the Kenyon Review!

The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers is excited to offer educators who participated in the 2025 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards scholarships to the Kenyon Review’s Genre-Specific Summer Online Adult Workshops! Ten selected educator-writers will join other participants for an online, six-day workshop series from June 22–28, 2025. The selected educators will receive full tuition scholarships, as well as $200 honorariums to support their writing practices.

About the Kenyon Review’s Genre-Specific Summer Online Adult Workshops: Designed for writers who can’t take time off for a residential workshop, our online program offers a unique opportunity to learn from three different faculty members in one genre-specific, generative workshop, which will meet every day for one week in June. The Kenyon Review offers workshops focusing on creative non-fiction, fiction, and poetry.

How to Apply

Visit our Submittable page to access the application. The deadline to apply is Monday, March 7, 2025, at 11:59 pm ET. All educators who participated in the 2025 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are eligible for this opportunity.

Important Note: To be eligible for this scholarship, educators must apply through the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers Submittable page. Applications entered through the Kenyon Review’s application process will not be eligible for these scholarships. However, educators may also submit a separate submission to the Kenyon Review’s application portal; such applications will be reviewed independently in case a scholarship is not awarded through the Alliance.

Application Requirements

  • Applicants must apply either to the Creative Non-Fiction, Fiction, OR Poetry cohorts; educators may not apply to more than one genre workshop.
  • Completed application form submitted through Submittable.
  • 10-page writing sample of prose and/or poetry. Any font size or font style is accepted, but we prefer that prose be double-spaced and poetry single-spaced.
  • A personal statement reflecting on connections between your personal writing practice and your work as an educator.

The Selection Process

Ten educator-writers will be selected through a competitive juried process. The committee’s criteria will focus on the quality of the submitted work (using the same rubric used to evaluate student work) and personal statement.

This opportunity is made possible thanks to the Maurice R. Robinson Fund and other generous supporters of the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers.
