The Scholastic Awards celebrated the 100th class of National Medalists during Awards Week, June 6-9, in New York City! From opening the stock exchange in Times Square to creative workshops and panels to the National Ceremony celebrating creative teens and their educators, the week was full of exciting events and moments that will last a lifetime. June 6, 2023
On June 6, 2023, the Scholastic Awards were honored at the Nasdaq Stock Market opening bell ceremony in recognition of our centennial. Scholastic Awards teens from across New York City and staff were invited to the opening ceremony, which culminated with Peter Warwick, Scholastic Inc.’s President and CEO, ringing the bell.
June 7, 2023
Registration for Awards Week was held at the Marriot Marquis Hotel in Times Square. During registration, teens could attend workshops such as henna drawing and learning a viral TikTok Dance. Teens could also attend a panel with editors from Scholastic Inc. to learn more about the business of publishing and afterward, they were invited to PeerSpace, a teen-only event where they had the chance to meet their fellow Medalists.

June 8, 2023
The Mayor of New York City proclaimed that June 8, 2023, was Scholastic Art & Writing Awards Day!
The day began with a breakfast for sponsors and the students who won special awards for their art or writing.
The National Ceremony was held at Carnegie Hall, one of the most prestigious concert venues in the world. This year’s special guests were Jamie Lee Curtis, Derek Luke, Kinsale Drake, and the 2023 National Medalists!
After the Ceremony, guests were ushered to the Ziegfeld Ballroom for the Centennial Gala in support of the Scholastic Awards. The gala raised funds for our programs and scholarships for students as well as cash awards for educators.
June 9, 2023
The last day of Awards Week began with a breakfast for educators and our Affiliate Partners. After the breakfast, educators were invited to attend panels while the Affiliates attended the Affiliate Leadership Conference to learn new methods and best practices for managing the Scholastic Awards in their communities. Teens attended creative workshops and panels throughout the day, such as the RISE panel which showcased the diverse ways in which the arts can be a catalyst for social impact. Teens heard from youth who have used their talents to advocate for important causes such as climate justice, racial equity, and mental health awareness.
The National Exhibition was on full display at two locations: Affirmation Arts and Scholastic Inc. Gold Medal and Silver Medal with Distinction works were on view at both locations.
