MINDA SILVESTRE, Open for Breathing, Design. Grade 12, Pius XI Catholic High School, Milwaukee, WI. One Earth Award

The One Earth Award provides four students whose creative works encourage the awareness of, and meaningful responses to, pressing issues of human-caused climate change with $1,000 scholarships. The 2019 Scholastic Awards was the inaugural year for this award, and we were blown away by the number and quality of the works. Today’s students have a lot to say about our planet!

The 2019 One Earth Awardees are:

Kaylee Chen, Fiona Luo, Minda Silvestre, and Aysha Zackria

Read Kaylee Chen’s poem “Pan” and Aysha Zackria’s dramatic script Hell and High Water.
