The 2017 Golden Educator Residents arrived at the Sam & Adele Golden Foundation barn on July 20 to begin their two-week painting residency. During the residency, the artists will learn about new painting techniques and technology from GOLDEN staff, as well as spend time working on their own paintings. For the third year in a row, this residency has been offered to educators whose students received Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, and we are proud to partner with Golden Artist Colors and the Sam & Adele Golden Foundation to offer such an amazing opportunity to deserving educators.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, Margaret Minardi was unable to attend the residency. We are excited to welcome Rebecca Buchanan as the third resident!
Rebecca hails from Hillsboro, OR, and had this to say about her paintings and being an art educator:
“Painting is my passion. I love the physicality of painting, the colors, the application, the mixing of colors, the play of one color next to another. My paintings revolve around my neighborhood and what makes a home a home . . . It is vitally important to me for my work to be about something, not just a pretty landscape.”
“As an art teacher I want my students to know that I am also a working artist who struggles like they struggle, continuing to stretch myself and them. I always take a class in the summer, hoping to gain information for my own work and also to bring back to my students.”
We’re delighted to welcome the educators to the residency and can’t wait to see what they create!
