The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards’ national office in New York City is dedicated to growing and supporting our Affiliate Partners across the country. Our Affiliate Partners are doing great work in their communities, and we love hearing about their outreach efforts, their students, and their programs. This month, we shine the spotlight on the Educational Gallery Group, which manages the Palm Beach (FL) Art Region of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Here’s what the Educational Gallery Group had to say about Awards activity in their region:
This is Educational Gallery Group’s tenth year as an Affiliate Partner of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Our countless Scholastic Awards Alumni have gone on to become successful artists, such as Carina Giacomelli who created wings for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in 2012 and Omar Bailey who created sneaker designs for New Balance, K-Swiss and Adidas, as well as architects, designers, and many other careers built upon their passion for the arts.
Throughout the years our Scholastic participants have done very well nationally. In 2016, Sophie Hullinger received a Gold Medal for her Art Portfolio and photography student Eli Dreyfoos’ Gold Medal photograph was featured in The New York Times, as well as on the front of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards’ 2016 National Catalog.
This year, we had more 2,500 submissions from students in the Palm Beach Art Region. New judges such as renowned producer Kathleen Glynn and political activist, artist, and designer Mary Fisher helped jury the work along with local artists, educators and art professionals. We can’t wait to see all the artwork in-person at our awards ceremony on February 25, which is held at the Armory Art Center. Works will also be on display at our gallery and we are introducing an Honorable Mention Spotlight Gallery at our new space in West Palm Beach.
One of our favorite regional programs that we provide through the Awards is the student spotlight on the side of Macy’s in City Place, a popular destination in Palm Beach County. Through this program we select ten individual student submissions to print and feature on the side of the Macy’s building for a whole year. This is a great way for the students and schools to be recognized on a larger scale due to the traffic in the area.
The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are proud to work with organizations like the Educational Gallery Group to help talented students receive recognition for their creative efforts. By partnering together, the Educational Gallery Group and the Scholastic Awards give our youth the support they need to become lasting members of their art and writing communities.
