The Alumni Council of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards is proud to announce the return of A Suite of One’s Own—The Roosevelt Hotel Writer’s Residency. Now in its second year, the residency provides accommodations and a stipend for Alumni of the Scholastic Awards to encourage them on their writing journey.

Residents will enjoy a five-night stay at the historic Roosevelt Hotel in New York City next spring. With support from the Amazon Literary Partnership, residents will also receive a $1,000 stipend and travel assistance.

We are proud to announce that Tina Chang will select the residents. Currently teaching at Sarah Lawrence College, Ms. Chang has held residencies at MacDowell Colony, Vermont Studio Center, and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and has received awards from the New York Foundation for the Arts, Poets & Writers, and others. She was elected the Poet Laureate of Brooklyn in 2010.

The application period for the residency opens on November 1, 2016. Applicants must be Alumni of the Scholastic Awards, and special consideration will be given to Alumni who have not participated in a writing residency previously. Currently enrolled high school and undergraduate students are not eligible to apply.

Be sure to follow the Scholastic Awards on social media for updates on the application deadline, dates of the residency, and when the residents will be announced!
