The Disposable Society, Editorial Cartoon by four-time Pulitzer Prize–winning political cartoonist Herb Block.

On Saturday, September 26, the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers and The Herb Block Foundation will present a special workshop, “Introduction to Editorial Cartooning,” at the Morean Arts Center in St. Petersburg, FL. Students of all skill levels are welcome to attend.

In this free, engaging, hands-on workshop, students in grades 7–12 will learn from professional cartoonist Tom Hart. He will talk about the history of editorial cartooning and his love of the craft. Students will also receive inspiring instruction and participate in exercises exploring the unique art of editorial cartooning, and the many ways in which they can use their art to comment on contemporary issues that matter to them. Students will also learn how they can submit their work to the prestigious Scholastic Art & Writing Awards to receive recognition, exhibition, publication, and scholarships.

After the workshop, be sure to check out the Art.Write.Now.Tour 2015-16 exhibition on display at the Morean Arts Center! The Tour showcases a selection of works from the 2015 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, featuring innovative art and writing by teens from all across the country. Admission is free!
