The National Events season of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards kicked off in New York City on Friday, June 5, with an opening reception for the Art.Write.Now.2015 National Exhibition, which runs through June 14 at Parsons School for design at The New School and Pratt Institute’s Pratt Manhattan Gallery. This coming week will be filled with many more great events and activities to celebrate the 2015 National Medalists!
The Social Media Scavenger Hunt begins on Wednesday, June 10. We invite all our National Medalists to take pictures, upload them to social media, tag them #goldkey, and win prizes! Pretty simple, right? For a list of photo ops students will be scavenging for, click here.
Thursday, June 11, is the big day—the National Ceremony at Carnegie Hall! National Medalists should arrive at 2:45 pm for a mandatory dress rehearsal; parents, guests, and educators can enter the building at 4:30 pm. The Ceremony will start promptly at 5:00 pm. We have several special guests lined up for the ceremony: Chelsea Clinton, YouTube personality JennXPenn, Glee star Matthew Morrison, Michelle Tan of Seventeen Magazine, sculptor and Scholastic Awards Alum Donald Lipski, and many more!
Our second annual Maker Prom at The Roosevelt Hotel follows the National Ceremony. All National Medalists are welcome to attend and the party starts at 7:30 pm. There will be dancing, music, and more than ten maker stations for students—so prepare to put your creative talents to great use. The Maker Prom is your chance to meet other National Medalists, party with your shiny new medal, and have fun!

National Events is our opportunity to give the students the recognition they deserve for all of their hard work over the past year. Being an artist or writer is not easy, and we appreciate how important it is for parents and educators to support their creative students. We’re looking forward to all of these great events, and we hope you’ll join us!
