For the very first time, the Alliance is offering an Artist Residency program thanks to support from the Esther B. Kahn Foundation. The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards have an incredible legacy of past winners– Richard Avedon, Andy Warhol, Truman Capote, Sylvia Plath, Zac Posen… and that’s just naming a few! The Residency program will help foster the next great generation of artists to come from the Awards. Going beyond just a stipend and workspace, it also offers career development and guidance. Learn more about the program and how to apply after the jump.
The Residency program is open to recent college graduates who are alumni of the Scholastic Awards. Accepted artists will receive a monthly stipend, workspace and exhibition opportunities. During their three months in residence, beginning in September, participants will attend career development workshops such as finance management, creating an online presence, and applying for grants. Artists will also receive mentorship from arts professionals and meet other artists in residence in New York City. In turn, they will carry out educational workshops for students and current Award winners. Residents will also be asked to keep blogs about their work and experience during the program. The Residency is a great opportunity for emerging artists to create work while receiving professional support and advice and acquiring real-world skills. For information on how to apply click here.
