Recently, the Alliance and some of its good friends got together for a night full of art, fashion, music and fun. Now Showing, which took place on March 9, was a silent auction featuring emerging artists, beats spun by DJ Gilles Wasserman, live music by Max Vernon and a performance by chamber-rock trio Rasputina. To top that all off, there were also literary readings by Lili Taylor and Jesse Eisenberg.
The featured artists and musicians in Now Showing were past winners of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards and we were proud to show them off! Lili Taylor read from Awards alumnus Myla Goldberg’s Bee Season and Jesse Eisenberg read work from alum Ned Vizzini’s It’s Kind of a Funny Story. Guests sipped cocktails as they strolled the space to check out the amazing artwork and fashions, while enjoying the musical stylings. Max Vernon kicked off the night with great energy which set the tone for the evening. The audience stood listening intently as Lili and Jesse read heartfelt and at times laugh out loud excerpts. The two actors were followed by an entertaining performance by Rasputina, donning their signature baroque attire.
